St Luke’s Bulls continued thier dominance in the annual Naqvi Cup by defeating Ottawa Police Service Blues 107-103 last Saturday. The Naqvi Cup Community BBQ and Basketball game is a fun annual event held at St. Luke’s Park on the corner of Elgin Street and Frank Street, where the St. Luke’s Bulls challenge the Ottawa Police Service Blues to a friendly game of basketball. This tournament originated ten years ago as a community building event – the goal was to forge important relationships between the Ottawa Police and the youth in the community. In the ten years of the annual tournament, the Ottawa Police has only won once, something they swear will change next time around in 2016.

Over the years, this friendly basketball game has expanded into an exciting community event in this neighbourhood. It now attracts hundreds of neighbours who come out to enjoy a community BBQ and witness the winning of an official prize – the Naqvi Cup. The event is made possible through support from the City of Ottawa, Yasir Naqvi MPP for Ottawa Centre, Enbridge Gas and many community partners.
