On Wednesday, May 4, 2016, members of The Network of Black Business & Professional Women gathered at Santé Restaurant, steps away from Parliament Hill, for their Annual Mother’s Day celebration. The occasion also served, not only to honour mothers and mother-figures, but also to officially welcome the Guest of Honor — Hon. Celina Ceasar-Chavannes, Parliamentary Secretary to the Prime Minister of Canada – to Ottawa. Other VIP guests included female heads of mission from Zimbabwe and Trinidad and Tobago. Guests at the event were also treated to a reading by Ms. Obi Simic, one of the authors recently featured at the National Gallery’s “Black Words Matter” event, during Black History Month.
