Obianuju Ekeocha

Obianuju, or ‘Uju’ for short, is an internationally acclaimed speaker, writer and activist advocating for the protection of African values, and she’s coming to Ottawa in May.

Born and raised in Nigeria, and currently working and living in the UK, she has travelled throughout Africa, Europe and North America promoting and defending a culture of life that is at the core of countless African nations, cultures, communities and tribes.

For many years she has been juggling between her two careers. The first as a bio-medical scientist in haematology, which is the study, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of blood related diseases, and which also pays the bills, and the second, as president of Culture of Life Africa, which she does on a volunteer basis.

Culture of Life Africa was founded by Uju several years ago as an initiative dedicated to the promotion of life, the beauty of marriage, the blessings of motherhood and the dignity of the family life, all of which are essential African values. It was these values that she felt were under attack by many well-funded activist organizations from the west who with their money and power decided to impose a population control agenda on Africa, claiming that in order to reduce poverty, the world needs less Africans to be born.

Uju, who never shies away from a challenge or debate, took these attacks to heart and decided to start Culture of Life Africa as a tool for pushing back against this new wave of cultural imperialism, a form of colonialism that many African nations do not need… again.

In the past year alone, Uju has travelled to 20 cities in 8 different countries, many of them throughout Africa, advising political and spiritual leaders on various issues relating to education, maternal health care and youth, urging them to stay strong in their convictions and to not allow wealthier, western ideologies to impose on their laws and traditions. This past March, she also spoke at the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women as a respected authority on African culture and the needs of women, children and families.

Her mission to uphold a culture of life and love in Africa has not gone unnoticed. Uju has been published in many news outlets including the Vatican’s Pontifical Council of the Laity, Catholic Herald and LifeSiteNews. She has been featured on various print media in multiple languages and has appeared multiple times on BBC television.

This May, she was invited to Ottawa by Campaign Life Coalition, the organizer of the National March for Life, the largest annual pro-life event in Canada, to be the keynote speaker at this year’s Rose Dinner on May 12th. Uju will also speak at a parliamentary breakfast on May 10th, and give a presentation to hundreds of young people at the March for Life Youth Conference on May 13th.
