Hundreds of Canadians gathered on Parliament Hill on a sunny Sunday morning on 29 September for the annual Canadian Police and Peace Officers’ memorial service. Established in 1978, this poignant event honours police, correctional, fire, conservation, and other peace officers who lost their lives in seeking to ensure the safety and well-being of their fellow citizens. In front of hundreds of spectators, representatives from various police, law enforcement, security and peace services across the country marched to the  haunting tunes of bagpipes, a ceremony that was accompanied by prayers and a reading of the honour roll of officers killed in the line of duty.
