Mahamud Elmi

Justice of the Peace Mahamud Hussein Elmi was a police officer and civilian member with the Ottawa Police Service for 18 years. He was the founding executive director of the Somali Hope Foundation, where he helped design, build and operate the Somali Hope Academy. He also volunteered with several organizations including the Ottawa Police Basketball Team and the Ottawa South Rotary Club. He received the Gold Medal Award for human rights and race relations.

Associate Chief Justice of the Ontario Court of Justice and Co-ordinator of Justices of the Peace Sharon M. Nicklas has assigned Justice of the Peace Elmi to Ottawa.

Aretha Lindsay

Justice of the Peace Aretha Yacoba Ekem Lindsay held staff and management positions with the Ontario Ministry of the Solicitor General and Ontario Ministry of Correctional Services. Her responsibilities included Commissioners of Oaths, area manager and program analyst. She was a policy team committee member of the Black Ontario Public Servants Employees Association.

Justice of the Peace Lindsay holds a bachelors of arts degree.

Justice of the Peace Sydney Thomas has held various positions in law enforcement within the Toronto Police Service (TPS) including staff sergeant, detective sergeant, constable and detective constable. He was a committee member with the TPS’s Black Internal Support Network, Black History Month Planning Committee and Racial Bias Policing and Racial Profiling Committee. He volunteered as an organizer for the charity You Vs You Training and as coach for ProAction Cops & Kids and Pickering Soccer Club.

Justice of the Peace Thomas holds a bachelors degree in justice studies.
