On Sunday, September 7, downtown Ottawa was awash in vibrant colours and music as the Latin American Festival Parade made its way down Elgin Street to City Hall where the Fiesta continued at Marion Dewar Plaza.
This year’s parade included Caribbean islands such as Haiti, Trinidad & Tobago and Guyana. The first Latin American Festival took place in 1997 to display and celebrate the rich and diverse traditions of Canadians from the Spanish-speaking Americas. Organized annually by the Latin American Community of Ottawa-Gatineau, this event features authentic Latin food, Latin rhythms, traditional dancing, Salsa, Bachata and Zumba demonstrations, and children’s activities.
