Some experts describe the presence of an emotional tax on underrepresented people in the workplace.. This “tax” comes from “feeling different from one’s peers… because of gender, race and ethnicity; being on guard for experiences of bias, and the associated effects on health, well-being, and the ability to thrive.” Some Black commentators refer to this as “the Black tax” because it’s such a familiar and typical experience.
