Mothers’ Day has traditionally been a very special day for the Igbo of South-Eastern Nigeria. The Igbo community in Ottawa has maintained this tradition with a special celebration honouring all the mothers for their selfless devotion to their families. This year’s event was held at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church on St. Laurent Boulevard on Sunday 29 May. It was preceded by a mass led by locally-based Igbo clergy. The fun-filled day was marked with music, food and entertainment provided by the Igbo Women’s Association.
