Good morning folks

Happy New Year to you and your loved ones. Hope the year 2020 brings you peace, love and happiness in all that you do. As we enter this new decade, we at the Editorial Board stand in wonder that our publication is now into its seventh year since our start up in 2013. We are indeed proud of the strides we have made in showcasing the achievements of Ottawa’s Black community and beyond. All this in no small part is thanks to our loyal readers and volunteer contributors, and appreciation to our advertisers who have kept faith with us and helped to offset the cost of production.

Our Top Story is the launching of the Ottawa hub of the Federation of Black Canadians , an important development for our community. We also report on the Black Canadian Scholarship Fund dinner dance which raises funds for indigent Black children. W also bring you news of Miss Universe and Miss World won by two beautiful women of colour. Jaku Konbit continues its tradition of hosting the annual Kwanzaa festival, which we bring to our readers. Our own Gwen Madiba continues to garner accolades as she receives the Order of Ottawa from the mayor. Rev Bassey Ekong brings you more spiritual insight in our Religion section. We also bring you two important reports which highlight the impact of race in Canada: wealth is race-based and a significant number of Black people say they have been subjected to racism.

All these and more in the January 2010 edition. Here is the report of the December 2109 poll:

Are you hopeful that Canada’s economy will be better in 2020 than 2019?

Yes 66% No 34% Thank you to all who voted.

Do take part in the January 2020 poll: Have you made a new year resolution?

We value your letters to the Editor so keep them coming; they help us make improvements to your favourite news magazine.

Wishing you and your loved ones the very best of the new decade.
