Good morning folks
Welcome to the September 2026 edition of Black Ottawa Scene. Our Top Story for the month is the launch of a special bus transportation for seniors by the African Canadian Association of Ottawa (ACAO). Other stories are the Emancipation Day trip by the Ottawa Golden Oldies Seniors Club to the Upper Canada Village in Morrisburg. Another Emancipation Day story was the Underground Freedom Train Ride retracing our history from way back. Pride of place also goes to another event: Community Roundtable Sparks Dialogue on Improving Access to Justice for Black Communities, which addressed challenges to Black youth caught within the criminal justice system.
Popular columnist Dr. Andy Kusi-Appiah brings readers another insightful take on the environment with his piece: When Water Becomes a Relationship. Another important write-up comes from Ottawa Public Health: Understanding Dementia.
