Y Executive Director Joe Capece and NIC Director Ana Patenaude, centre with NIC staffers

Tuesday 17 January 2023

The YMCA/YWCA Newcomer Information Centre (NIC) celebrated its 15th anniversary on Tuesday 17 January at their Isabella Street location. Among the guests were managers and staffers from the city’s settlement agencies: Ottawa Community Immigrant Services Organization; Le Conseil Économique et Social d’Ottawa Carleton (CÉSOC); Somali Centre for Family Services; Catholic Centre for Immigrants; Jewish Family Services and Point D’Accueil francophone Ottawa.

The Centre was established in the national capital region of the YMCA-YWCA office on October 17, 2007.  The NIC is a welcoming place for immigrants starting their new lives in Canada. The program is funded by Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). Every year, the NIC provides support to more than 11,000 newcomers in Ottawa. They have a team of trained information and referral specialists who speak various languages and make sure that newcomers receive relevant and up-to-date information.

Black Ottawa Scene was there to capture pics of the event.
