October 20 to November 22, 2016
Shenkman Arts Centre located at Orlean’s Centrum Boulevard was a hive of activity as artist Hamid Ayoub, hosted a month-long special solo exhibition of his paintings titled: Contemplation on Colour’s Conversation. The opening ceremony at the Centre’s Trinity Art Gallery on Sunday October 23 attracted a large crowd of fans of the renowned Ottawa-based artist.
The gallery, owned and operated by the City of Ottawa, features the works of local and regional artists selected through an annual peer assessment process.
According to Hamid, the exhibition was about the interaction of the properties of colour – hue, value, density – in an abstracted visual conversation. Brush and palette knife painting techniques shape the spontaneous flow of acrylic paint in a rhythmic harmony, symbolically suggesting human interaction. Various sized canvases capture the influence of African art and traditions on Hamid’s artistic vision.
Hamid Ayoub depicts the emotions of human spirit through colour, movement and texture to condense the entire spectrum of life experiences. As an artist, Hamid has expanded his creative repertory to include the use of bright colours to enhance and communicate the joy and dynamism of the subjects illustrated in his paintings. Through the use of colours, Hamid strives to reflect the beauty and continuity of the human soul. This beauty continues to be of the utmost importance in this day and age.
Born in Sudan in 1967, and presently living in Ottawa , Hamid Ayoub is a Bachelor of Arts graduate from the College of Fine and Applied Arts, Sudan University of Sciences and Technology, with a specialization in Textile Design. For him, art is ever present because we are surrounded by shapes and colours which are the pulse of any artistic creation. Every-day sights and situations shape the work of the artist. Hamid Ayoub depicts the emotions of human spirit through colour and movement. Different mediums are used to render the entire spectrum of life experiences.
