On April 2, 2015, H.E. John L. Lanyasunya, the new High Commissioner for Kenya to Canada, was the guest of honour at a reception in his honour jointly hosted by the Kenyan associations of Ottawa and the Greater Toronto Area as well as the Kenya High Commission. Mr. Lanyasunya arrived in Ottawa on February 23rd and presented his letters of credence to H.E. Rt. Hon. David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, on March 31st, at Rideau Hall.
A career diplomat, High Commissioner Lanyasunya has previously served as Kenya’s Ambassador to the Federal Republic of Germany and as a non-resident Ambassador to Austria, Romania and Bulgaria. He has also served as Kenya’s High Commissioner to Australia and as a non-resident High Commissioner to New Zealand. Prior to his appointment to this new post, High Commissioner Lanyasunya served as Director, Asia and Australasia Directorate, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade in Nairobi.
