Seminar showcases successful Black professional and business women

The Sip and Snack event at the Afrotecture store on 55 Byward Market in Ottawa created an opportunity for connections between dynamic Black Women in Business in Ottawa. 

Collaborating with the Afrotecture business to foster relationships with local professional women, the Network of Black Business and Professional Women (NB2PW) had a panel of young Black women in business excelling in their chosen careers share their success stories, including the challenges with the women.

The session was moderated by Missy Prosper, an executive of the NBP2W.

 The panelist comprises of Adeline Mutembnema, owner of postnatalU Fitness, an organization dedicated to helping women lose baby weight and other postnatal issues, Fiona Khaemba of Anaya Arts, an eCommerce company dedicated to selling unique wall art and apparel accessories, Josephine Mensah, a career, and Business Coach and Brenda Williams, Executive Director of New life Project Inc. a company dedicated to building up women of virtue through effective support system.

They spoke about their journey into the business world, the struggles, and challenges and how they overcame their teething problems. The salient issues for participants include the need to develop a resilient disposition, connect with other women professionals and engage in constant self-development in chosen fields of endeavor.

The women listened with rapt attention and had personal conversations with the panelists. And on a lighter note, the participants savored the well-made snacks and drinks while admiring the products displayed at the Afrotechure store. The event was sponsored by Bacannelle, a household name in the catering industry in Ottawa.

Joy Osiagwu is a Project Officer with Black History Ottawa. She has over two decades of experience as a broadcast journalist in Nigeria and North America. She holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree from the University of Cumbria in the United Kingdom, plus a post-graduate diploma in Broadcast Performing Arts from the Columbia Academy, Vancouver, British Columbia.
