Some 200 guests were at the Sana San Marco Event and Banquet Centre on Preston Street to celebrate the 45th Independence Day anniversary of St. Vincent and the Grenadines. Hosted by the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Association of Ottawa, under the leadership of their President, Suzette Small-Weekes, attendees were treated to an eclectic mix of entertainment, music, inspirational speeches, community and scholarship awards awards, silent auction, raffles and enjoyable comradeship among the organizers and the guests. Special guests in attendance were: Deputy Mayor and Councilllor for Rideau-Rockcliffe ward, Rawslon King; and Consul General, St. Vincent & the Grenadines, Fitzgerald Huggins. Keynote speaker was fashion pioneer, Solitha Shortte.
One big surprise of the evening was the unplanned and unscheduled Ottawa United Way award to SVGAO President Suzette Small-Weekes by United Way representative Sarah Onyango, reported separately as Top Story on this edition of Black Ottawa Scene.
