Yemane Abede

Eriterian-born Yemane Abede has been appointed Program Manager of the Settlement and Integration department of the Ottawa Community Immigrant Services Organisation (OCISO). A a statement from the settlement agency stated:

I would like to congratulate and introduce Yemane Abede as the new Settlement and Integration Program Manager.

Before joining OCISO, Yemane contributed his areas of expertise for three and a half years to working with UNHCR Eritrea as a Senior Protection Assistant as local staff. This was in addition to his previous experience in the justice system of Eritrea in different capacities for over five years.

Yemane has been an instrumental employee at OCISO for the past four years, where he has provided support, and enriched the experiences of refugees and newcomers as a Team member of the Settlement and Integration Program. In his role as a Private Sponsorship Facilitator at OCISO, Yemane supported the Group of Five sponsors in preparing their Group of Five (G5) Sponsorship Application for regular mail or email submissions, to the Immigration Refugee and Citizenship Canada’s (IRCC) “Resettlement Operations Centre in Ottawa (ROC-O).” He also provided Settlement Counselling to newcomers to help them make Canada their new home.

Yemane holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Law (LLB) from Eritrea. Yemane speaks English, Tigrinya, and Amharic.

In his free time, Yemane likes walking, jogging, family time, and watching the news.
