Sadia Abdullahi is a  Senior Child and Youth Worker with  Lowertown Community Resource Centre. On Monday 3 November at City Hall, Crime Prevention Ottawa honoured this young black woman with its prestigious Youth Worker award, for her dedicated service in providing innovative services for children and youth, especially those facing barriers such as poverty, marginalization, and a risk of social alienation.

Her profile as provided by CPO, demonstrates why she was selected fro this unique award. In her role as a Child and Youth Worker with the Lowertown Community Resource Centre, Sadia has been a constant presence in the community, focusing on mentoring and educating children and youth ages 5 to 21. She takes great pride in her involvement with the Leadership Program and has forged relationships with the Ottawa Police and Ottawa Community Housing Security to help educate youth about reducing crime in their community. Sadia is making Lowertown a safer neighbourhood by being present, connecting with youth and involving them in their own community. She is passionate about helping youth grow into amazing young people. Through her work, Sadia has established herself as an invaluable positive role model for at-risk youth and has become someone they can turn to and trust to help them overcome their everyday challenges. Sadia also works full-time with the Boys and Girls Club YOW (youth outreach) program.
