Good morning folks

Hope you and your loved ones are keeping safe and well. Yes, another month of pandemic lockdown and there doesn’t seem to be an end in sight! But hang in there; with the continuing roll-out of the vaccinations, one can begin to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Sunday May 9 is Mothers’ Day and we celebrate and honour our mothers in this month’s edition. No surprise that our Top Story is a tribute to all mothers by one of our community iconic leaders June Girvan. We also include tributes from Noella Charles, Basirat Bashorum and Anu Makinde.

Speaking of the pandemic, in this edition, veteran columnist Andy Kusi-Appiah takes on the confusing flip-flop approach of the Ontario government, while published writer Ifeoma Chinwuba waxes nostalgic about what she misses most during the pandemic. Activist Ketcia Peters gives her insight into the implications of the guilty verdict handed to ex-cop Chavin for the now infamous killing of George Floyd in Minnesota.

Media icon Patricia Bebia Mawa continues to garner more laurels with the award of the prestigious Harry Jerome award in Toronto. Way to go, Pat!

On a sad note, we say goodbye to much-loved Deacon Leon Stewart, who passed away in April; our heartfelt condolences to his family.

Here is the result of the April 2021 poll: Will you be taking the Covid 19 vaccination when it becomes available? Yes 67% No 33% Thank you to all who voted.

Do remember to take part in the May 2021 poll: Do you believe Canadian police are as racist as police in the USA?

All these and more in the May 2021 edition of your favourite news magazine. Stay safe and well!
