On Saturday, September 6, Michelle Simms launched her new catering business, ROOTS EN ROUTE, a new catering service delivering health Caribbean dishes, at an event aptly titled “An Evening of Everything Jerk”. The many guests in attendance were treated to a sampling of “jerk” meat, fish and vegan dishes with complementing side options and delicious beverages. A graduate of Algonquin College’s Culinary Skills Chef Training Program, Ms. Simms draws on her Jamaican heritage to prepare scrumptious dishes using her homemade jerk spice. Her food is wholesome, low in salt, sugar, fat, dairy and eggs. The launch event also featured live entertainment provided by popular African a capella group SIFA Choir, as well as performances by poets Joanne John and Jacqueline Lawrence. There was also an African Marketplace featuring paintings, home decor, accessories and natural soaps.
