Valerie Sitar Muchenje died Thursday, May 30, 2019 at the age of 46.
She will be deeply missed by her husband Zvondai, sons Farai and Themba, and daughter Thandiwe.
Valerie completed her nursing degree at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario. After graduation, she worked at Grassy Narrows First Nation Reserve before fulfilling her lifelong dream of working as a nurse in Africa where she met her husband.
Valerie later settled with her family in Ottawa, Ontario. She loved music and was an accomplished pianist as well as an integral member of the Tine Rufaro Marimba Band. Her passion for the outdoors was inspired by and shared with her family, who treasure camping, canoeing, and hiking together.
Friends may call at Capital Funeral Home and Cemetery on Sunday, June 2, 2019 from 10:00 am until time of service which will be held in the Chapel at 11:00 am, followed by burial and reception.
Donations to Ottawa General Hospital Cancer Clinic would be greatly appreciated.

Funeral Service

Over 100 family and friends of the late Valerie Muchenje were at the Capital Cemetery Chapel for a funeral service for her. Husband Zvondai with children Farai and Themba and Thandiwe led the mourners in a moving service attended by many members of the Bahai religious faith to which the family belonged. Valerie’s parents, siblings and other close relatives were among the chief mourners, while the Zimbabwe Community Association was represented by one of their executive committee members.
