Monday 18 November saw hundreds of settlement workers, councillors, new immigrants and people working for or advocating for increased access to jobs and social services for immigrants, gathered at City hall to witness the launching of the City of Ottawa immigration portal. This online resource is geared to attracting and retaining immigrants who can contribute to the growth and prosperity of the national capital. The portal contains a comprehensive range of information on life in Ottawa: housing, employment, education, social and health services, climate, everything a prospective immigrant needs to know to make an informed decision to choose the city as a destination of choice. The Mayor of Ottawa Jim Watson and several councillors were in attendance for this innovative project from the municipal government. For more information visit: www.ottawa.ca/immigration.
