Hello Black Ottawa Scene readers!

My name is Kika Otiono, and I am excited to be appointed as the Youth Editor at Black Ottawa Scene. I am a 12th grade student interested in connecting Black youth all over Canada, and showing them the endless opportunities available to them. I am passionate about social justice issues, particularly those surrounding race, gender, and socio-economic background. As a result, I want Black youth in Ottawa to become passionate about these issues as well—and many more that impact them. Welcome to Youth In Action. What is ‘Youth in Action’? Youth in Action is a place for Black youth in Ottawa to find solace, community, inspiration, and enrichment. All over Canada, young adults of African and Caribbean ancestry are taking action in their schools, workplaces, and communities. I believe that they have ideas, opinions, and views that matter. Youth in Action will be a place for Black youth in Ottawa to have a voice and to talk about issues that matter to them. These include articles and interviews on topics such as social justice, colonialism, politics, technology, science, and more! Youth in Action is a community for Black youth in Ottawa to network, connect, and to grow. For any inquiries, suggestions, and concerns, I may be reached at [email protected] .
