SLCA President Odofie Williams

The Jim Durrell Community Centre on Walkley Road was abuzz with activity as the Sierra Leone Community Association (SLCA) hosted its Independence Day gala. Under the leadership of President Odofie Williams, the event attracted friends and families of the Sierra Leone diaspora in the national capital region.

Ottawa’s only Black Municipal Councillor Rawlson King was there to grace the occasion. Also present were: President, St. Vincent & Grenadines Association, Suzette Small-Weekes; Black History Ottawa Community Outreach Officer, Sarah Onyango; President, Global Community Alliance, Yomi Pratt; Political & Social Justice Advocate, Yvette Ashiri; Sierra Leone Honorary Consul and former Member of Parliament, David Pratt; Former SLCA President, Monty Domingo; President of the African Canadian Association of Ottawa (ACAO), John Adeyefa; ACAO Executive Director, Hector Addison.

Among the highlights of the evening was the presentation of a laptop to the SLCA President Odofie Williams by ACAO President John Adeyefa.

Truly a night of comradeship, music, dance, delicious food and refreshments from the best Sierra Leone cuisine!
