Good morning all
Hope you had a good restful summer. This month we bring you the first of a new and exciting series on fashion, written by Sara Khembo Alfazem, a newcomer to Ottawa, but a seasoned columnist, who had cut her “editorial teeth” via London, Vancouver and South Africa. We also celebrate the wedding of Tayo and Erica Olafimihan, our Top Story for September. The couple did their stuff different than most other weddings we’ve covered: first the traditional Burundi/Nigerian wedding on on Saturday August 12 and then the formal religious wedding a week later. Needless to say, everyone had a bash! The annual Dapo Agoro Fun Day is featured, in memory of a young African Canadian who died tragically young, trying to make peace among friends and foes alike. Other stories include the anti-racism march to the US Embassy in response to the Charlotteville hated-filled events among our southern neighbours.

On the Social Scene, what would summer be without the world renowned Toronto Caribbean Festival? Our Youth in Action team continues to make editorial waves, as columnist Illili Ahmed challenges our white neighbours to stand up and be counted in her letter: Dear silent white people. On a rather troubling note, we bring you news of thousands of mostly Haitian refugee claimants arriving in Canada from the U.S.A, out of fear of Donald Trump and his racist immigration policies.
