Jaku Konbit President Ken Campbell was at the Bronson Centre last Saturday doing what he does best, organizing yet another hugely successful Kwanzaa festival. Close to 200 persons from Ottawa’s diverse communities were there to participate in an eclectic show comprising music, inspirational speaking, dance, symbolic African rituals, along with a mouth-watering feast to round off a joyous celebration.
Kwanzaa is an African American and pan-African holiday celebrating family, community and culture. It was created in 1966 by Dr. Maulana Karenga, a professor of African Studies. The festival runs from 26 December to 1 January, and connects community values from continental Africa to African American culture.
