Over two hundred people were at the City Hall on Laurier Avenue for Ottawa’s annual celebration of Somali culture. The event included music and a cultural dance by the Society of Young Achievers, exotic Somali food, spelling bee organised by the Somali Youth Support Project; a screening of: “The Water Project“, a documentary about three individuals who had travelled to Somalia and witnessed one of the longest droughts in the history of the region; showcasing of Somali-run businesses, plus displays from various community agencies such as Ottawa Public Health, Jaku Konbit and the Somali Centre for Family Services.
