On July 26, 2015, friends and family joined Brenda Williams for the official Canadian launch of NewLife Project Inc. , a non-profit organization she founded in Freetown, Sierra Leone in the early 1990s. The guest speaker at the event was Ms. Elcho Stewart, Founder and President of the Network of Black Business & Professional Women. Through its training and rehabilitation programs, NewLife Project Inc. empowers economically disadvantaged and at-risk women and helps them rebuild their lives. After successfully graduating from NewLife sewing, textile dyeing, catering and other vocational training courses, many students start their own businesses. In fact, at the Ottawa launch, clothing, accessories and artwork produced by NewLife students were on display, and proceeds from their sale will be used to continue funding the organization’s programs.
