OTTAWA, Ontario—Her Excellency the Right Honourable Mary Simon, Governor General of Canada, will invest 1 Companion (C.C.), 17 Officers (O.C.) and 43 Members (C.M.) into the Order of Canada during a ceremony at Rideau Hall.
The Order of Canada is one of our country’s highest honours. Appointments are made for sustained achievement at three levels: Companion, Officer and Member. Officers and Members may be elevated within the Order in recognition of further achievements, based on continued exceptional or extraordinary service to Canada.
The Honourable Justice Hugh L. Fraser, O.C.
Ottawa, Ontario
Olympic sprinter and renowned expert in sports law Hugh Fraser has represented Canada both on and off the track. Throughout his distinguished career as an arbitrator and judge, he has ensured fair play and integrity in amateur and professional sport worldwide, notably as an inaugural and long-standing member of the Court of Arbitration for Sport and as commissioner of Athletics Canada. A devoted volunteer, he has supported and elevated the Canadian sports system through his engagement with various organizations.
The Order of Canada is how our country honours people who make extraordinary contributions to the nation.
Since its creation in 1967—Canada’s centennial year—more than 7 600 people from all sectors of society have been invested into the Order. The contributions of these trailblazers are varied, yet they have all enriched the lives of others and made a difference to this country. Their grit and passion inspire us, teach us and show us the way forward. They exemplify the Order’s motto: DESIDERANTES MELIOREM PATRIAM (“They desire a better country”).
