The Barbados (Ottawa) Association celebrated the country’s 58th Independence anniversary with a gala at the Hellenic Event Centre on Prince of Wales Drive, with a glittering array of VIP’s, family friends and well wishers. Under the leadership of President Jacqui Dixon, and with TV personality Stefan Keyes as MC, guests were treated to an evening delicious food, inspirational speeches and entertainment. Barbados High Commissioner to Canada, Ambassador Gline Clarke commended the organization for its initiatives to support local health facilities and urged them to continue their efforts by promoting the country’s beauty to people of other nationalities and by visiting the country themselves. Among the VIP’s present were the St. Kitts and Nevis High Commissioner to Canada, Ambassador Samuel Berridge; Barbados Vice Consul in Toronto, Mihcha Roberts; Ottawa Deputy Mayor Rawlson King; Black History Ottawa President June Girvan and Rocsena Kidney Foundation President Maxine Grant.
