Digital Specialist – (12-month contract)

Through funding from the Resilient Communities project by Ontario Trillium Foundation and with a grant from the Ottawa Community Foundation, Black History Ottawa has created this exciting position. We are looking for an enthusiastic individual with experience working with a charity, a non-profit and/or with volunteers to help us increase our presence and impact in the National Capital Region. Success in this role calls for the ability to work closely with the Board of Directors to help build Black History Ottawa’s organizational capacity and improve its operational management.
ABOUT THE JOB
The Digital Specialist will support the medium and long-term efforts to build the technological capacity of our organization and will enhance our ability to deliver programs and services in innovative ways.
Important qualifications for this position include practical technical knowledge, ability to easily navigate social media; advanced proficiency in graphic design, and experience with various types of marketing and design software.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
You will be responsible for updating our website, enhancing our presence on social media platforms, digitizing presentation materials, and assisting with the monthly online magazine Black Ottawa Scene. You must be very comfortable with technology and able to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
REQUIREMENTS
* College diploma or university degree in Computer Sciences, Software Development, or other related IT specialties
*Experience in project management or project coordination
*Experience in developing or creating, updating, and managing websites as well as troubleshooting
*Experience in creating, managing, and maintaining social media platforms
*Experience with creating PowerPoint presentations and using graphic design applications
*Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to interact remotely and in-person
As this is a new position within the organization, evaluation of the role will be ongoing, responsibilities may be adjusted to meet future operational priorities and additional community requirements.
Proficiency in French is considered a great asset.
The work schedule will be flexible, and the successful candidate may be required to work in the evenings and on weekends to attend events and meetings.
