PROJECT OFFICER – (12-month contract)

Black History Ottawa through the Resilient Communities project Funded by Ontario Trillium Foundation has created this exciting position and is looking for an enthusiastic individual with experience working with a charity, a non-profit and/or with volunteers to help us increase our presence and impact in the National Capital Region. Success in this role calls for the ability to work closely with the Board of Directors to help build Black History Ottawa’s organizational capacity and improve its operational management.

ABOUT THE JOB

The Project Officer will play a key role in the development of our programming and will increase our ability to deliver on our original mission (documenting, showcasing, and sharing our history and contributions to Ottawa and Canada) as well as our more recent community development and empowerment activities.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

As a Project Officer, you will coordinate Black History Ottawa’s outreach initiatives, fundraising activities, and community events. You are a very well-organized person that will also provide day-to-day support for the management of grants and governance support. You must possess strong communication (oral and written) and time management skills, have solid experience using relevant technology, and be capable of handling multiple projects simultaneously.

REQUIREMENTS

*College diploma or university degree in Social Sciences, Business Administration, Project Management, or other related qualifications

*Experience in project management or project coordination

*Experience in community development and engagement

*Knowledge of ethnic and community organizations

*Excellent communication and problem-solving skills

*Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to interact remotely and in person

As this is a new position within the organization, evaluation of the role will be ongoing, responsibilities may be adjusted to meet future operational priorities and additional community requirements.

Proficiency in French is considered a great asset.

The work schedule will be flexible, and the successful candidate may be required to work in the evenings and on weekends to attend events and meetings.
