The auditorium of Colonel By Secondary school was filled to capacity as the school hosted its popular annual Black History Month celebrations. With a theme of ” I will rise’, the students entertained with a memorable mix of poetry, songs, drama and more, topped off with a delicious buffet dinner for the guests. Teacher and mentor Crystal-Lee Savage was serenaded to the stage to chants of “Ms Savage, Ms Savage” – something many a politician would envy – to be congratulated on her award the previous week of a Black History Ottawa Community Builder award, for her outstanding work with the students. What an evening to savour.
