Wednesday 6 August, saw Jamaicans and friends of Jamaica gather in front of City Hall to watch the Jamaican flag raised in celebration of the 52nd anniversary of the country’s independence . Jamaican High Commissioner Sheila Sealy-Monteith was there as was Mayor Jim Watson and Acting Deputy Police Chief Jill Skinner, plus several other dignitaries. Entertainment was provided by the visiting Jamaican Youth Orchestra.
Jamaicans and friends of Jamaica commenced week-long celebrations of their country’s 52nd independence anniversary with a church service at the Parkdale United Church on Sunday 3 August. In attendance were diplomats and other dignitaries, as well as leaders of Caribbean and African community organisations. The Ottawa Seventh Day Adventist Church Pathfinders assisted in the church service.
