Person’s name: Kaywana Malcolm Place of work: The Ottawa hospital Job title: Registered Nurse
When one thinks of front line workers, they think of a nurse working in the ICU or a nurse working with patients with the Covid-19 virus and often forget the many nurses that continue to support the already vulnerable population of individuals with mental illness. During the pandemic, Kaywana has worked as an inpatient psychiatrist nurse, supporting treatment and recovery for individuals with mental illness. As an outpatient psychiatry nurse, she also provides essential medical support to patients requiring treatment to prevent decompensation of their mental health symptoms. Since March 2020, Kaywana has been working with the Ottawa Public Health, providing support to the community in the area of infection prevention and control.
