Noirs-Si-Sons cultural showcase in Gatineau
by Sarah Onyango
On Saturday, February 2st, the Conseil de la communauté noire de Gatineau held a colourful cultural showcase at City Hall to close that city’s Black history month festivities. The afternoon featured performances by Burundian drummers as well as Rwandan, Haitian and Afro-Latino dancers; singing by Senegalese artist Oumar Ndiaye and Ottawa’s Sifa Choir; a Caribbean fitness workout led by Tarrah Mauricette; speeches by Gatineau mayor Maxime Pédneault-Jobin and several black community leaders; booths displaying arts. crafts, clothing, accessories, and skin-care presented by local businesses, and, of course, delicious African food.
