During my lunch break today, I had the pleasure of chatting with future Canadian citizens an hour before they were sworn in. We shared stories of trials and triumphs in our journey to feeling at home in Canada. Yes, long winters, bad (overly greasy and underseasoned)food, getting used to Canadianisms and Quebec French…all of that and more. I was impressed by the young Moroccan lad ( university student) who proudly declared that he couldn’t wait to become a citizen so he can vote abd help shape his adopted country’s destiny. Many thanks to the Canadian Diversity Institute for this beautiful event celebrating Citizenship Week (May 22-28) and to the National Gallery of Canada for hosting!
