Sunday 13 September
St. Andrews Church on Kent Street was filled to almost capacity as Nigerians and their friends, some from as far away as Toronto and Montreal assembled for an inter-denominational service to send off out-going High Commissioner Chief Ojo Maduekwe and his deputy, Ambassador Charles Onianwa, who were leaving Canada after a three-year diplomatic posting. The church service was followed by a reception at the Rockcliffe Park residence of the ambassador, hosted by the Nigerian-Canadian Association of Ottawa, led by its hard-working President, John Adeyefa. Special thanks and kudos to the Igbo Community Association, led by President Emma Ukwu, which provided the food and refreshments for the event.
