On March 9, 2013, St Lucia celebrated their independence with a gala. At this gala, former SLOA president Noella Charles was presented with a surprise United Way Community Builder Award. Up-and-coing soprano Keena Eloise was among the recipients of a special plaque from the association recognizing “sons and daughters” of St Lucia who have and continue to raise the profile of the island.
