The name Abuaraki Albakhit my not ring a bell to most Canadians, but for the majority of those of Sudanese descent, he is a household word, an icon, a musical genius and singer, who has dedicated his life to the promotion of Sudanese culture, heritage and human rights. Under the auspices of the Sudanese-Canadian Association of Ottawa (SCAO), Abduaraki was at the Tom Brown Arena in Ottawa on Saturday 30 April, to commune with the Sudanese community, their friends and families, and enthrall his vast audience with his prodigious musical talent. The sold-out concert was followed on Sunday May 1, with a dinner with selected guests at the home of Dr. Jawahir Ismail.
