Another wonderful Juneteenth celebration in our Nation’s Capital in the books! Many thanks to U.S. ambassador David Cohen for hosting tonight’s gathering at his residence and for his hard-working team for organizing everything. This year’s celebration was made even more special by the presence of National Urban League CEO Marc Morial, his talented wife, CBS broadcast journalist Michelle Miller, and renowned cookbook author Nicole Taylor.
It was a privilege to chat with Ms. Miller about some Canadian Black History and hopefully she’ll produce more special reports about it on American television? I sure hope so. Tonight was also a chance to reconnect with folks I hadn’t seen since before the pandemic as well as make new contacts, including a Nova Scotian lady who spotted her great-grandfather’s picture on the cover of a book I was about to give to Mr. Morial! Crazy coincidence! Special Shout-out to Daniel and the Public Diplomacy team at the U.S. embassy for continuing to create such spaces for meaningful engagement between Canadians and Americans on issues of mutual interest.
