“The Smart Money Woman” Movie review by Vive Akugha
This is an educational series on finances based in Africa particularly Nigeria. It is an adaptation from the book of the same name by Arese Ugwu. We are met with 5 ladies of different characters and financial habits. The focus is on Zuri’s (Osas Ighodaro) path to alleviate financial burden through enlightenment, adjustment and discipline. The show goes on for seven episodes of 35 minutes or more and each episode ends with quoted takeaways from the book. This information at the end of each episode aims to further emphasize the points. Each character of varying backstories and professions cause their financial habits which negatively or positively impacts them. Important topics such as home insurance, will writing, different streams of income, investing, financial plans in marriage and more are explored while acknowledging social pressures. The educative aspects although being the basis is framed around the story of friendships, work dynamics, family and relationships. The show is available on Netflix. It is very enlightening and vital for anyone to learn from.
