Under the auspices of the Sierra Leone Community Association (SCLA), Ottawa’s Sierra Leone community celebrated the 54th anniversary of their country’s independence at the Margaret Rywark Community centre on Knoxdale Road. Putting aside for the moment, memories of the Ebola epidemic that had caused much havoc in their homeland, they enjoyed an evening of music, inspirational speeches, excellent cuisine and good comradeship with families, friends and well wishers. Among the honoured guests was former Canada’s Defence Minister David Pratt, who is also honorary consul for Sierra Leone in Canada.
