Saturday October 26, over a hundred Tanzanians and friends of Tanzania gathered at the River Building of Carleton University for an evening of reflections, music, dance, poetry, delicious Tanzanian food and high Tanzanian fashion from a bevy of East African beauties. Organised by the Canadian World Education Fund (CWEF) and the East African Students’ Association, and led by super organizer Petronila Michael, the goal was to raise funds to sponsor needy children in Tanzania through the various levels of education.  Registered as a Canadian charity in 2011 and led by Founder and President Julie Caron, CWEF has successfully funded agricultural and health care  projects, clean water, organised educational seminars and promotes self sufficiency and self reliance among the local communities. The organisation also works in partnership with the Tanzanian based Saidia Agriculture and Social Care Organisation and local government agencies in making foster care within extended families, a feasible alternative to orphanages through microfinance and agriculture projects.  More information at www.cwef.ca/site/Tanzania.
