Ottawa’s annual Health and Wellness Seminar was held on Saturday 12 April at the Public Service Alliance Centre on Gilmour Street. The well attended event was a joint venture between the National Institute of Jamaican-Canadians, Racially Visible Action Committee, The Trinidad & Tobago Association of Ottawa, Jamaica (Ottawa) Community Association Inc., Jaku Konbit, Guyana Ottawa Cultural Association and the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Ottawa Association. Among the speakers were Alison Timmons, Case Manager with the Nepean Rideau Osgoode Community Centre (Elder Abuse and Awareness); Lawyer Marcia Green (Legalities of Care-Giving and Legal Guardianship); Insurance Specialist Patrick Joseph (Critical Illness and Long-term Care Insurance); Psychiatrist Greg Motayne and Ottawa Police Officer Jason Mallett (Youth and Mental Illness). Each presentation was accompanied by a very interactive question and answer session and discussions on the various topics with the enthusiastic audience.
